It is the custom in some cultures to remove ones show when entering a home. A side from picking up a lot of gunk in the street or a white carpet why is this?
In certain cultures the home is viewed as a sacred space.
Why remove one’s shoes in a sacred space?
There are many reasons:
- Source likes a clean place. When I clean my place, even if it’s only a 6′ x 6′ corner I feel happy inside.
- Removing one’s shoes puts one in touch with the structure or ground ones is standing on.
- It reminds us, even unconsciously, that we are not separate from our surroundings. We are connected to it.
- It helps to ground us, both physically and energetically.
- If we happen to step on a pebble we are reminded that we aren’t invincible. We are dependent on Source.
- Removing one’s shoes in a sacred space shows reverence for Deity. For Source, and by extension for us.
These are just a few reasons. We may do it out of custom or courtesy to one’s host. But the most important reason is what it means to us.
Think about it and see if it might have some spiritual significance in your life.
An all round good blog!!
